Dr. Bill Block has been a resident of Naperville for over 40 years. He grew up attending district 204 schools, playing sports in both the Wheatland Township and Naperville Park District. He then graduated from Waubonsie Valley High School in 1999. During his time at WVHS, Billy (as his friends and family call him) was a 2 sport varsity athlete playing both basketball and baseball. After high school, he continued his education and baseball career at College of Dupage for 2 more years. He then transferred to Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN, where he studied biomechanics and kinesiology. Graduating from Purdue in 2003, Bill returned home to Naperville, studied at Midwestern University, and received his Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2007.
“The Human body and its resiliency have always fascinated me. Becoming a physical therapist has given me the lifelong reward of being able to work with individuals to improve their physical limitations, reduce psychological barriers that often accompany injuries/diagnosis, and to play a role in their road to recovery. I strive to help individuals not just return to normal, but find their BEST HEALTH. It is a good feeling at the end of the day to know that I have helped a person progress towards a better quality of life, and break FREE from the restrictions of their diagnosis.”
Bill’s career as a physical therapist started while working for a small “mom & pop” physical therapy shop. Here Bill learned how one-on-one quality care can really make a difference in peoples’ lives for both the patient and the practitioners working in this environment. After many years working in this environment, the “mom & pop” shop joined a larger nation-wide franchise. Slowly but surely, Bill witnessed how the customized one-on-one care model slipped away. With the decreased reimbursement rates of insurance companies and the elevated pressures to “meet business metrics”, the family feel of community wellness had been taken over by “bottom-line healthcare”. It is Bill’s mission to return to his roots and re-create an atmosphere of community wellness that embodies the vision of:
Independence + Purpose = Fulfillment!
To inspire and help both patients and other practitioners choose a path to have freedom and autonomy in healthcare. To break free from “big-chain” healthcare!!!
Bill is grateful for the opportunities that his community has provided for him, and he is passionate about giving back to “the community that raised him”. Bill has worked as a physical therapist in Naperville for the past 18 years since graduating from Midwestern University. His primary works include being the 1st Schroth Method certified practitioner in the state of Illinois, which has allowed him to serve patients who have scoliosis. He has been a dedicated clinical instructor for 17 years, hosting students ranging from undergrad to graduate school, providing them with clinical experience.
“It is my pleasure to play a part in students' career endeavors, just as many clinicians have helped me along the way.”
Bill has also obtained special certifications in ASTYM, MDT cupping techniques, Vestibular training, Stecco Fascial Manipulation, and he has recently added LSVT Big to his special certifications in order to help the growing population of people with Parkinson Disease. Bill is also always excited to work with athletes returning to sport or looking to optimize their game!
